Koh Phi Phi is as beautiful as a painting

by Nadja Meyer (Writing 105, April 2014)
I know why more than 10,000 visitors a day come to this wonderful island during peak months. The landscape and the beaches are awesome, and it is simply impressive scenery. There are a lot of very well organized companies for boat tours to discover as much as you can around the island. The restaurants serve a variety of different dishes, from Thai food through American food to European food.  On Koh Phi Phi Island everything you need for your perfect vacation is available.
Koh Phi Phi has many different beaches, and every beach has its specialty. For example, Maya Bay is very popular and touristy, because it is the island where the movie “The Beach” with Leonardo DiCaprio was filmed. Other beaches like Monkey Beach or Bamboo Beach are not so crowded, and you can enjoy the wonderful landscape. The color of the sea is from blue to green, and the water is very clean. Together with the white beach and the green hills, the scenery looks like a painting, and makes you feel as if you are in a dream.

To discover all of these wonderful places, you can join one of the organized boat tours. You do not have to decide on the tours before you arrive on the island. You can book the tours right on the island for the next day. The tours are usually one-day-trips, and the lunch is included.  A great experience for me was the snorkeling and kayaking trip. On the boat was enough staff to make us feel safe, and they always helped us with the kayaks. We could relax and enjoy the sun, the sea, the underwater world and the landscape, and I really recommend these tours to everyone.

The food was always very delicious and I could try a lot of different typical Thai meals, like Pat Thai, which is with noodles and eggs and tastes very good. On Koh Phi Phi you can find everything you like, there are also European or American restaurants. The food is cheap, especially the typical Thai food. In addition, the seafood is extremely fresh, because they go out with the boats to angle every day. Every dish I tried was more than satisfying.
Koh Phi Phi offers a lot and has a great value for money. There is something great for everyone. If you love nature, adventures in breathtaking landscapes and special food you should not miss Koh Phi Phi. Everything is much cheaper than in Europe, so you can take part in a lot of different things. I truly recommend visiting this island, you will have a wonderful time on this extraordinary place!

Sunday Travel Update – I Love Louisville, KY!

All of the seasons are amazing in Louisville, KY. The winters are cold and snowy, while the summers are very hot, and humid. In the spring, trees, flowers, grasses and plants bloom all over the place which brings a lot of beautiful life and color to all the scenery. In the fall, everything turns beautiful shades of red and then just goes away for the winter. I have been living here for over a year but cannot pick which one is my favorite.
Sometimes the winters here are very cold, and there will be both snow and ice which can completely shut down their roads. Even though, this can be convenient, sometimes this means school is cancelled and a lot of people are very happy. Since they cannot go to school or work, and the roads are shut down, people go outside and ride sleds down hills. I had never seen a real snowman before I moved here, and now I have seen a whole snowman town in my neighborhood.
When the winter ends, and it starts to get warm, Spring is also very beautiful in Louisville. There is a lot of rain, which makes all the plants come back to life very fast. There are many great smells because of this, including honeysuckle which is amazing. At the beginning of Spring, people are wearing coats and gloves, but at the end of Spring, they start to wear shorts. Spring is a great time for people who like to show off different fashions.
The summer here is very hot, so almost everyone wears shorts during the summer. The state is not near an ocean, but there are a lot of lakes and rivers. A lot of people love the summer activities such as boats and swimming during these hot summers. On really hot days, it feels great to sit outside and drink nice cold drinks like Coca-Cola, or even lemonade.
There is something to do and see outside at every time of the year in Louisville, KY and I always recommend to my friends that they should visit here too. Whether you want to throw snowballs and go sledding, play in the rains and watch plants bloom, or have a cold drink sitting on a boat, this place will put a smile on your face. Louisville looks forward to seeing you soon.

What IS "Hot ESL Travel Spots"?

This is a blog that will showcase the work of ESL and EFL students who are working on their reading and writing skills.

Students will write articles discussing places they have traveled while studying the English language. They will discuss what they have liked, or in some cases not liked so much, about those various destinations. You will read about their most and least favorite places in the whole English-speaking world.

These writers may speak directly to other ESL/EFL students around the world, recommending to their fellow students all the places they should visit, or avoid, and why! Discussions will certainly be allowed, so feel free to comment on any article at any time, and share your own experiences and viewpoints about the place being discussed.

We also want to hear from YOU! If you would like to write for us, please check out the blog posting below for the guidelines.

Thanks for stopping by!
